Plymouth backs Bath, Book, Bed campaign

Our library service is joining up with a national campaign to help children get a good night’s sleep.

BookTrust, the UK’s largest children’s reading charity, has launched a booklet featuring top tips and advice from TV parenting expert Jo Frost as part of its Bath, Book, Bed campaign.

The initiative encourages families to make stories part of every child’s bedtime routine and parents and carers can pick up a free copy of the booklet from all Plymouth libraries from Monday 24 April.

Councillor Glenn Jordan, Cabinet Member for Culture, said: “Getting young children to sleep at night doesn’t need to be a bedtime battle. Reading a book before bed as part of a regular nightly routine is the perfect way to get your little one ready to visit the land of nod. Bath, Book, Bed is all you need to remember.

Bedtime themed rhymetimes and storytimes are being held in libraries to promote the campaign, including a teddy bear sleepover at Plympton Library.

On Tuesday 2 May libraries and children’s centres are joining up for a free event in the Plymouth Guildhall, where people can drop in between midday and 2pm for storytelling, rhymetimes, face painting, crafts and more.
