Jennycliff Beach is currently out of bounds over fears about the safety of the path from the cliff to the beach.
Plymouth City Council, who own the beach and the path, have closed the path as a temporary measure and put a sign up warning walkers to stay away as a safety precaution.
A section could potentially be unstable following some movement of earth beneath the path. Some land has also slid onto the beach below.
Given its location, it is thought that erosion and water run-off from the top of the cliff could have undermined the path’s stability.
The council will be carrying out an investigation to see what the exact issue is and the extent of it as well as plan for remedial work to make the path and cliff face safe.
The area is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and the shore line falls within the Marine Special Area of Conservation.
