Spotless! This is the morning after the night before.
What a night, what a line-up, what a spectacle – thousands of people had a great night out last night at MTV presents: Ocean City Sounds but when the music stopped the hard work began.
Our crews were up until the small hours cleaning the Hoe in readiness for Day Two.
Members of our Street Scene and Waste team were onsite working shifts from 4pm on Day One till 3am to make sure the Hoe and surrounding streets are spick and span.
This year lots more recycling bins were installed both inside and outside the concert area. It is part of a pilot to identify single use plastic volumes at major events and will help the Council develop its strategy for recycling at Council-led events.
The bins designated for glass filled up quickly outside the event, while inside it was the plastic bins that quickly topped up. As well as more recycling, event-goers were encouraged to bring empty reusable cups or bottles.
Councillor Sue Dann, Cabinet Member for Street Scene said: “Our staff have done a phenomenal job to get the Hoe looking great again – a huge thank-you to all of them. All our crews have had a challenging week, so hats off to working so hard to keep the services going for our residents.”
Last night they picked up five tonnes in refuse truck and two tonnes using the mechanical sweeper from the floor.
