People who keep poultry or captive birds are being asked to keep them indoors or take steps to keep them separate from wild birds.
The Government Chief Vet has declared a Prevention Zoneto help protect birds from a strain of avian flu circulating in mainland Europe. The zone covers England and will remain in place for 30 days.
No cases have been found in the UK – this is a precautionary measure to help prevent potential infection from wild birds.
Poultry keepers are being asked to be vigilant for any signs of disease in their birds and disinfect clothing and equipment.
