BRIT, MOBO and Ivor Novello award winner Tinie Tempah and pop heavyweight Jess Glynne have been confirmed to appear on the first night of MTV Crashes Plymouth.
Tinie Tempah, who had a number one with his debut album Disc-Overy and has won BRIT Awards for Best British Breakthrough Act and Best British Single, will be headlining on Wednesday 22 July.
Since the release of his second album, Demonstration, he has had two top 10 singles in the UK charts and he recently became an ambassador for MTV’s Staying Alive Foundation, joining their global fight against HIV.
He’ll be joined at the event of the summer by Jess Glynne, who had number ones with Clean Bandit’s ‘Rather Be’ and Route 94’s ‘My Love’, as well as her own ‘Hold My Hand’, which held the top spot for three weeks. Her debut solo single, Right Here, reached the top 10 and her first album is expected later this year.
After the success of last year’s Crashes, which saw Kaiser Chiefs, Example, The 1975 and Kiesza whip a crowd of over 20,000 into a pop-frenzy on the sun-drenched Hoe, MTV are coming back with a two-night double hit of live music performances from some of the biggest pop stars in the UK.
The second night will feature a top DJ line-up as part of the new, all-powerful Club MTV show, to round off this year’s Crashes with a roof-raising finale.
Tinie Tempah said: “MTV Crashes Plymouth is going to be awesome. It’s so beautiful down there. I can’t wait to get out there and perform by the sea this summertime. It’s going to be a wicked show!”
Jess Glynne said: “I’m so happy to be announced for MTV Crashes Plymouth with Tinie Tempah! This is a really exciting year for me with my album coming out later in the year and the summer is going to be mental. MTV Plymouth, let’s do it!”
MTV Crashes Plymouth is organised by MTV in collaboration with Plymouth City Council.
Deputy Council Leader Peter Smith said: “We can’t wait to welcome Tinie Tempah and Jess Glynne to Plymouth for the first night of Crashes. They are massively popular artists and are bound to be a big hit with the crowd. The event is still more than two months away but you can already feel the excitement building and there are more top names to come.”
Tickets to MTV Crashes Day One were snapped up in minutes but keep an eye on the MTV website for info on how to win tickets to this sold out event. Limited tickets for Day Two, Club MTV, are still available on the See Tickets website.
MTV Crashes Plymouth will be broadcast on MTV’s flagship UK music TV channels, showcasing Britain’s Ocean City in over 35 countries with some electric live performances.
MTV will be announcing more names for both shows soon – stay up-to-date on the Visit Plymouth website, follow @MTVPlymouth on Twitter or see the What’s On Plymouth Facebook page.
