Livewell Southwest win contract for Health Improvement

Livewell Southwest have been selected to continue to deliver health improvement services in Plymouth for at least the next three years.

Livewell are Plymouth City Council’s current provider and after a competitive contract tendering process will continue to deliver a suite of integrated health improvement services that support the population of Plymouth to improve their health and wellbeing.

Councillor Lynda Bowyer, Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care said: “We are delighted to continue our association with Livewell Southwest.

“They have demonstrated a great track record of engagement, both locally and in some cases nationally, over a number of campaigns and we are all pleased to be working with them again on a number of exciting and worthy campaigns.”

Steve Waite, Chief Executive of Livewell Southwest added: “We are delighted and proud to have been successful in being awarded the contract to deliver valuable health and wellbeing support and advice to the Plymouth area.

“Our award winning team has an extensive range of interventions that can support people to maintain a good level of physical and emotional health and wellbeing.

“There has been a good record of engagement with communities and we look forward to developing and enhancing this support over the forthcoming years.”

The Health improvement service offers a wide range of training and lifestyle interventions which can help people to stop smoking, achieve and maintain a healthy weight, become more physically active, and look after their emotional and mental health. Livewell’s Wellbeing Team currently provide a range of accredited training programmes, which help to build knowledge and skills in the community as well as across the whole health and social care system.

Other campaigns include supporting and promoting breastfeeding, promoting national campaigns locally, such as Be Clear on Cancer and providing training for people and organisations in health improvement topics.

The team work with a range of community partners to deliver services across a variety of settings to support individuals in schools, communities, at work, local events, as well as in traditional health settings.

There are a range of ways in which people can get support, from online information and advice through to one-on-one and group support in person.

Success stories have included winning the 2016 Royal Society for Public Health Mental Health and Wellbeing national award for a locally led arts festival and the development of the OneYouPlymouth website as part of this year’s Thrive Plymouth campaign.
