Libraries celebrate Bookstart Week

Libraries in Plymouth will be celebrating National Bookstart Week (5 to 11 June) with fun activities encouraging families to read together.

The theme of this year’s event is ‘let’s explore outdoors’, providing the perfect opportunity to share and enjoy books, stories and rhymes about the outdoors and playing outside.

Children who attend library activities will receive a free copy of the picture book Everybunny Dance!, written and Illustrated by Ellie Sandall.

As well as activities in libraries, there will be rhymetimes and story sessions in parks, children’s centres and nurseries. Toddler favourites Pip and Posy, from the picture books by Axel Scheffler, will also be appearing at some locations.

Councillor Glenn Jordan, Cabinet Member for Culture, said: “Sharing books helps children develop their language skills and reading levels. It’s never too early to start reading with your baby and we’re looking forward to welcoming families to our libraries during National Bookstart Week.
