A-Level statement 2019

Students across Plymouth are collecting their A-Level and other Post-16 results today.

Early indications show that young people across the city have the results they need to go on to higher education and their desired pathways after completing their studies.

Councillor Jon Taylor the Cabinet Member responsible for Education and Skills said: “I’d like to congratulate all those who have collected their results today, this is the culmination of two years of hard work. Students will now find there are several different routes into higher education, jobs and higher level apprenticeships ahead of them and I’d like to wish them all good luck on their chosen career path.”

For students progressing into higher education there are great local opportunities through Plymouth University, Plymouth Marjon University and Plymouth College of Art, or the prospect of moving to a university away from the city.

Higher education may not be the first choice for some students and the city offers a chance for them to progress their careers through either vocational or technical options as well as a vast array of apprenticeships that range from entry to degree level in certain sectors.

Apprenticeships continue to prove a popular route for employers in the city to build the skills needed for their business. They are a great way of entering many industries, providing practical and relevant work experience and the chance to earn while you learn. At any one time there are up to 20,000 Apprenticeship vacancies advertised on the GOV.UK website, with around 150 live vacancies a month in Plymouth.

For any students who have not received their expected grades, or those re-considering their plans, support and guidance on alternative options can be provided by staff in their schools and colleges.
