Joint Council and NHS statement on Sunshine Care

Sunshine Care – joint statement from Plymouth City Council and NHS Northern, Eastern and Western Devon Clinical Commissioning Group (NHS NEW Devon CCG):

Council and NHS commissioners in Plymouth are pleased to announce they have appointed three local care providers to provide continuity of care for service users affected by the announcement of a reduction in services by Sunshine Care.

The new providers are in the process of recruiting staff formerly employed by Sunshine Care.

Sunshine Care Ltd announced on Monday 26 October that they were entering a Company Voluntary Agreement (CVA) and would stop providing most of their Home Care support services from 1 November. They will however, still provide sheltered housing, live-in care and the Retreat Care Home as usual.

Councillor Ian Tuffin, Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care for Plymouth City Council, said: “Supporting the needs of service users and ensuring they get continuity of care is our top priority.

“Although obviously it is a difficult time for services users and their families and the staff affected, we are pleased that we have managed to come to an agreement with other local providers.

“Sunshine Care and the new providers are in the process of contacting service users to update them on the situation.”
