Devonport Park is joining venues across the country in celebrating the Great British Tennis Weekend tomorrow and on Sunday.
Organised by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) and our sports development unit, the event will run from 10am until 4pm on both days and there will be loads of activities on offer for people of all ages and abilities.
As well as the usual Tennis for Free sessions that run on a Saturday, there will be ‘cardio tennis’ (a tennis-inspired workout that’s all about burning calories and having fun) ‘mini tennis’ (a scaled-down version of the game for younger players, with different tennis balls and smaller courts and nets), touch tennis, free play and family, fun and coaching sessions.
Other events ware also taking place at Hele’s School and Plympton tennis courts.
All equipment and coaching will be provided for free but sessions will be popular so people are advised to book in advance.
Deputy Council Leader Peter Smith said: “Tennis is a great game as it is a sport for all levels of fitness and for families, as well as individual players. We want to improve people’s lifestyles in a non-preachy way and a fantastic way of doing this is by making sports fun. The Great British Tennis Weekend is about having a go – even if you have not played for years.”
