Following a technical problem that caused a fire in one of our refuse vehicles yesterday (Tuesday), we’ve recalled all other vehicles of the same type to carry out safety checks. The incident follows a fire in another vehicle last week.
Fortunately no one was hurt in either incident but the safety of our crews and residents must be our priority. We are now working with the manufacturer of these vehicles so we can be assured there are no risks to crew safety before they return to service.
This will cause some disruption to both green and brown waste collections but we are doing everything we can to minimise delays to collections. Householders should leave their bins out and our crews will collect them as soon as possible.
We are very sorry for the inconvenience to all households affected but we hope residents will understand that the safety of our crews is our top priority. We are doing our best to resume full collections as soon as possible and will give further advice by the end of this week.
