Blunts Lane is to close next month, for the duration of the Forder Valley Link Road works.
The narrow route, which runs between Forder Valley Road and Davy Road, is going to be out of action to through traffic from Monday 23 September.
The closure will be in place throughout the project, which will create a much-needed alternative link between the A38 and the north of the city.
It will also enable work to start on a haul road (a temporary road that will be used for transporting material and plant to and from the site compound) at the bottom end of Blunts Lane, near Poole Farm. Balfour Beatty will set up a site office beside Poole Farm at the same time.
People will still be able to access Poole Farm but all other drivers and pedestrians will need to follow a signed diversion route via Novorossiysk Road and Miller Way.
Access to properties and allotments on Blunts Lane will be maintained from the north (via this diversion) and residents are being contacted directly.
Councillor Mark Coker, Cabinet Member for Strategic Planning and infrastructure said: “Work is progressing well on relocating utilities and we are now getting the site ready for the start of the main construction work.
“This is one of our biggest ever infrastructure projects but we are doing all we can to minimise disruption and let people know of any changes that may affect them so that they can plan ahead.”
