We would like to make it clear that work is not starting on the new Forder Valley Link Road scheme today, as has been reported by some media.
The scheme design is yet to be finalised and the final business case is still to be submitted.
Specialist contractors are digging trial pits and boreholes from this week until the end of January to confirm the ground conditions and help guide the next stage of detailed design. This follows initial ground investigations that were carried out in 2016.
The surveys are being carried out between 8am and 4.30pm and are taking place on the verge or away from the carriageway so will not disrupt traffic. Contractors have been setting up and scanning today at the northern end of the proposed route.
Councillor Patrick Nicholson, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Strategic Transport, Housing and Planning, said: “These ground investigations will help us develop more detailed designs for the new Forder Valley Link Road ahead of submitting the final business case to the Department for Transport next year.”
