A number of Council teams have been working with the emergency services and other partners to support those affected by today’s fire in Barne Barton.
Eleven families from the fire and smoke-damaged building are unable to return to their homes. Sanctuary Housing are providing temporary accommodation for those who need it while we work together to look at their longer-term housing options.
Residents evacuated from neighbouring blocks have been offered shelter, refreshments and support at a rest centre set up at the Tamar View Community Centre. They are expected to be allowed to return to their properties shortly.
Police and fire investigators will remain at the scene, working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the fire.
Acting Superintendent Rob Mooney from Devon and Cornwall Police said: “This was a major incident and I would praise the swift response of all of the emergency services and partner agencies. We are very thankful that there were a low number of casualties and injuries were minor.”
