Fancy hel-ping at table tennis festival?

Our sports development unit is looking for volunteers to help out at this summer’s Ping! street table tennis festival.

Now in its sixth year, Ping! takes table tennis to remarkable and surprising public places nationwide and Plymouth is hosting the national launch on Saturday 13 June.

An all-day ping-pong event will be held in Armada Way where people can drop by and try their hand at ‘beat the robot’ sessions, free play, fun competitions and master classes. In the eight weeks that follow, residents and visitors will be able to play table tennis for free on more than 40 tables across the city.

There will be master classes, competitions, tournaments, social events and activities that people of all abilities can join in with and bats and balls will be provided for free.

If you have some spare time on your hands and fancy helping out, call 307008 or email sportsdev@plymouth.gov.uk. You don’t have to be a table tennis player – just enthusiastic and aged 16 or over.

You will be invited to a workshop at the Plymouth Life Centre on Friday 29 May, where you will learn more about the objectives of the Ping! project and the things you could do as a volunteer, such as umpire games, lead fun sessions and promote local clubs.
