Plymouth City Council is sad to announce the death of Alderman and former Lord Mayor and Councillor, John Leslie Mills.
Alderman Mills died on Friday 15 February aged 89. He was a Councillor from 1967 to 1995 for the Plympton Erle ward and was made an honorary Alderman of the city of Plymouth in July 1995, having previously been Lord Mayor from 1985 to 1986.
A Funeral service is being held on Friday, 8 March, 1pm at All Saints Church in Sparkwell. The Council flag is now being flown at half-mast until sunset on the day of his funeral.
Alderman Mills served on a number of Council committees, including Planning, Libraries and Museum and Leisure Services.
Councillor Tudor Evans, Leader of Plymouth City Council, said: “Alderman Mills was a well-respected Councillor who dedicated a huge amount of his time to serving the people of Plymouth. My thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.”
