Our sports development unit is on the lookout for enthusiastic runners interested in leading new women’s running groups at local primary schools and nurseries.
It wants to expand its successful beginners’ running network with new ‘This Girl Can’ sessions designed for busy mums.
Sports Development Manager Louise Kelley said: “We have a great track record in encouraging people to take up running but we want to make sessions more appealing to busy mums who are trying to juggle a million and one things and often can’t find the time to exercise.
“Running is a fun, cheap way to get active – the only investment women need to make is in a suitable pair of trainers and a good, supportive bra. We hope these sessions will appeal to ladies who have sent the kids off to school and can spare 45 minutes to take their first running steps.
“Our running sessions are only possible thanks to volunteer leaders who give up their time to support others. For anyone who’s interested in leading one of these new groups, we have a limited number of free spaces available on the next training course.”
The one-day ‘Leadership in Running Fitness’ course gives runners all the skills they need to deliver fun and safe sessions. Places normally cost £155 but the team has funding available for men and women aged 18 or over who want to share their passion for running. The next course is being held on Saturday 28 November at Eggbuckland Community College.
