Work on a large new development of state of the art, eco-friendly work spaces is now complete.
After months in planning and nine months of construction, Plymouth City Council has taken possession of Plymouth’s most recent addition to the supply of high quality business units on Langage Science Park.
The keys to the 30,000sq ft scheme are being officially handed over by Paul Clarkson, Managing Director of Britcon UK to Leader of Plymouth City Council, Councillor Tudor Evans.
The new, highly specified and sustainable workspace scheme was given its name in recognition of Plymouth scientist Jonathan Nash Hearder, an electrical engineer, inventor and educator who developed the induction coil and was an advisor on the first Atlantic cable.
Leader of Plymouth City Council, Councillor Tudor Evans, said: “We have invested £2.7 million in creating this wonderful workspace project. Its quality is truly superb and will allow businesses a real opportunity to occupy some first class facilities.
“Plymouth has the highest concentration of manufacturing employment of any city south of the Midlands and we need the space with up-to-date facilities to attract high end companies.
“Even before completion we have taken a number of serious enquiries about renting the units, including two national engineering firms, which is really encouraging.
“Hearder Court’s location just off the main A38 and close to the City will be a great selling point and will provide discerning businesses an opportunity to occupy the newest, most modern and high quality premises in the City.”

The new Hearder Court development includes:
- 9 units available to let ranging in size from 1,268sqft to 10,293 sqft
- Flexible design to suit companies large and small – with potential to be combined creating larger space up to 20,443sqft
- Units able to be extended vertically or horizontally
- Robust security including perimeter fencing
- Energy saving features such as solar photovoltaic systems, efficient heating systems, LED lighting and increased levels of insulation, minimising carbon emissions & reducing running costs for occupiers
- Generous service yard areas, dedicated parking, cycle shelters, waste recycling zones and electrically operated loading doors
- EPC rating of A
It is anticipated that the development will create and support around 80 full time jobs once fully let and will bring in a long term annual revenue income for the Council.
