The Lord Mayor of Plymouth, Councillor Sam Davey, hosted a civic reception today for local athletes who competed at the Invictus Games in October.

Mark Ormrod, Nick Martin and Kelly Ganfield from Plymouth and Debbie Godfrey from Torpoint were presented with gifts in recognition of their achievements and for representing the city on the world stage.

The Lord Mayor said: “Plymouth is incredibly proud of the local sportsmen and women selected to take part in this year’s Invictus Games in Sydney.

“Competing at an international level is a major achievement for any athlete but even more so for those who have had to overcome such significant challenges.

“Mark Ormrod brought home an amazing seven medals, including four gold – one in an event he had never even attempted. Kelly Ganfield also won silver, bringing our total to eight.

“I’m sure the whole city is behind me in congratulating our Invictus athletes, as well as the coaches, clubs, friends and family who support them.”

Each competitor’s events and results can be viewed on the Invictus Games website.
