Christmas tree put up in Baby Garden

Improvement & Development Officer Phil Gallagher and Bereavement Service Manager Karen Jennings place the first bauble on the tree

A Christmas tree has been placed in the Baby Garden at Weston Mill Cemetery.

The tree has been provided in partnership with baby bereavement charity Little Things & Co to offer parents an opportunity for remembrance of their baby at a very difficult time of year.

Parents who have lost a baby can have a personalised bauble placed on the tree, which will remain in place throughout the festive period.

Councillor Mike Leaves, whose cabinet portfolio includes crematoria, said: “For many, the Christmas period can be a particularly difficult time of the year and I’m pleased that we can offer parents that little bit of comfort.”

The baby garden was established in 1984 as a separate area for families who had lost a baby and was designed as a place for quiet contemplation.
