Big Friendly Read a big hit

More than 4,000 Plymouth children signed up to this year’s Summer Reading Challenge.

The Big Friendly Read is celebrating 100 years of the world’s greatest storyteller, Roald Dahl and children have until Saturday 17 September to read their six books.

Our libraries staff are encouraging everyone to finish so they can be presented with a medal in their library and a certificate in their school.

Councillor Glenn Jordan, Cabinet Member for Culture, said: “The Summer Reading Challenge has been a big hit this year and we are thrilled with the number of children that have taken part. Now we want as many children as possible to complete the challenge so they can show off their medal and certificate.”

To celebrate the end of the challenge and Roald Dahl Day some of our libraries are holding Big Friendly Read finale parties on Saturday 17 September with free crafts and activities.
