Plymotion Sustainable Travel Grants 2018

Up to £5,000 grants are up for grabs from Plymotion.

Organisations in Plymouth can now apply for up to £5,000 for schemes to make it easier for their staff to travel to work either by bike, on foot, or by bus.

Match funding of up to £5,000 is being made available through Plymouth City Council’s Plymotion at Your Workplace programme, to provide facilities or initiatives to encourage employees to leave their car at home, and make the switch to greener modes of transport.

The grants could be used to provide facilities like improved cycle storage or lockers for staff, or initiatives such as a dedicated car share service or subsidised bus passes. The Council is open to any proposal providing it achieves the core aim of the fund, which is to promote greener modes of transport.

You can apply to Plymotion for sustainable travel grants for your workplace.

This is the fourth time grants have been made available. Previous successful applicants have used the funding to provide improved cycle parking, enhanced shower and changing facilities, and electric pool bikes.

Nick Hambly, one of the successful applicants in 2017, wanted a more sustainable way to make deliveries.

Nick said: “In recent times I have used my car to enable myself to deliver magazines, leaflets and papers to houses in the Plymouth area. I tried my push bike but the weight of the cargo made this impossible.

The electric bike and trailer has worked a treat, enabling me to leave the car at home and go about my work on my new bike – plus saving money on fuel and repairs!”

Councillor Patrick Nicholson, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Strategic Transport, Planning and Housing, said: “Good intentions sometimes need a bit of support to get off the ground. Sustainable Travel Grants help organisations equip themselves and their staff to explore greener, healthier and cheaper travel options. This grant programme will continue to support and enable organisations in Plymouth to achieve these aims.”
