District shopping centres are given a deep clean


Plymouth’s district shopping centres are all getting a deep clean this month.

Cleaning crews will be out across all 20 district shopping centres steam cleaning pavements, jet washing litter bins, removing weeds and graffiti cleaning.

This is the first time Plymouth’s district shopping centres have received this sort of deep clean and it will now be programmed into regular cleansing cycles.

Councillor Sue Dann, Cabinet Member for Environment and Streetscene said: “We recognise that our district shopping centres are so important for communities for people to access shops right on their doorstep and the Council has also recognised that we need to give these district shopping centres a spruce-up.”

So far the crews have cleaned; Albert Road, Stoke Village, Cumberland Street, Devonport Road, Embankment Road, St Budeaux shops, Whitleigh Green, Crownhill shops and all subways.

By the end of the month they will have completed; Plymstock Broadway car park, Wolsey Road, North Prospect Road, Marlborough Street, Deans Cross, The Ridgeway, Torridge Way, West park, Leigham, Estover, Eggbuckland and Honicknowle.

Street Services Team Leader Mike Berry said: “This is much more than our usual cleansing routine of the district shopping centres and we’ve been really pleased with the amount of positive compliments we have had from residents as we’ve been working.”
